Racism and life in the global village. Modern African music with strong Mandingo roots.

A solo CD by a former member of Les Amazones de Guinee. Contains new songs composed during Sona's recent year-long stay in Guinea. "Tounkana" speaks of racism and life in the global village called "One-World" from the point of view of an African woman with twenty years of world travel behind her. Includes modern instruments and sounds unlike her previous solo CD "gare-gare" which relied on traditional instruments -- a new direction for Sona. Excellent arrangement by fellow Guineen star, Kerfala Kante, who crafted undulating grooves with reeds, e-guitar, keyboards, bass & drums mixed with traditional instruments like bolon, acoustic guitar, balafon and djembe. Superb musicians make this CD a must for all music lovers -- not only Sona Diabate fans!
